Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect when I come to class?
To train Capoeira is more than to just go once in a while for the aerobic workout, or to enjoy the energy of the roda. Of course we welcome anyone for whom this is appropriate but for most participants, that is not enough. It is traditional for Capoeiristas to immerse themselves in the art, training, researching, and socializing outside of class. Capoeira Brasil is dedicated to perpetuating and maintaining the tradition of Capoeira while continuing to evolve the art.

Class begins with a warm up, with all levels training together. After about a 30 minute warm up/workout, we split according to level. To train Capoeira is to try as hard as you can each time you train, knowing that an unfamiliar or difficult movement will come with time, patience and attention to technique. Don't be discouraged if you don't catch on right away - feel free to ask questions, we are here to help.

What should I bring to class?
For your first class you need to bring:

  • Loose clothes that allow you to move
  • A water bottle, because you will need to stay hydrated.
  • A good attitude; open your mind to the new cultural experience
  • A friend to support and motivate you

Hygiene: When playing Capoeira you will be in close contact with other people and it's a hot and sweaty game. Try where possible to keep your clothes washed and clean

Do I need to be fit to start Capoeira?
No. Capoeira is for everyone no matter your fitness level or age.
