Instructor Tulio Instructor Tulio

Tulio Costa Fontes (aka Mercurio) was first introduced to Capoeira when he was a teenager in his hometown of Espirito Santo, Vitoria, Brazil. Capoeira gave him a passion for life and provided him with discipline and focus, at a time when he could have easily been influenced by the wrong people and turned to crime, like many teenage boys living in the poorer areas of Brazil.

Tulio started training in Group Capoeira Brasil, in Vila Velha, Espirito Santo, Brazil. After coming to New Zealand in 2002, he established Group Capoeira Brasil here under the supervision of Master Paulinho Sabia, one of the founders of Group Capoeira Brasil.

Tulio has been teaching Capoeira in the Bay of Plenty since 2006, and currently teaches both kids and adult classes in Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, Papamoa and Te Puke. He also teach workshops for schools and groups, as well as perform at festivals and events all over the Bay of Plenty Region and New Zealand.

"I am passionate about Capoeira and fitness, and enjoy helping my students reach their goals. Our group actively promotes Capoeira, the Brazilian culture, health and fitness in the community."
